Apply now: Student intern scholarship pays tribute to Gina Battaglia

The NCRF Gina Battaglia Memorial Student Intern Scholarship is intended to help an NCRA student member who has been an intern in the past 12 months. Applicants must be nominated by their court reporting programs and must also submit a letter of recommendation and an essay. Judicial, CART, and captioning students are encouraged to apply. The deadline to apply is March 1. See the scholarship page for full eligibility and submission details.

The $1,000 scholarship for one recipient was originally created by NCRF Trustees and Angel Gatherers Committee members to honor the memory of Gina Battaglia, daughter of Angel Stephanie Zeder Battaglia, RMR, CRR, a freelance court reporter from Hinsdale, Ill.

During recent strategic planning discussions, NCRF Trustees doubled most award amounts and the number of recipients for each scholarship and grant. Therefore, in 2024 two winners will be named for the NCRF Gina Battaglia Memorial Student Intern Scholarship each valued at $2,000.

Gina Battaglia

Gina passed away unexpectedly in October 2022. Gina’s mother’s Facebook practice colleagues and other court reporting friends started an NCRF fundraiser to honor Gina’s memory. She is also now an NCRF Memorial Angel.

Last year’s inaugural winner was Sophia Morris of Austin, Texas. “This award is another example of how amazing the stenography community is,” Morris said in a video when Rich Germosen, FAPR, RDR, CRR, a freelancer from North Brunswick, N.J., announced her name.

“After this tragic loss, court reporters came together to create this scholarship in honor of Gina to help students on their way to becoming working reporters. This scholarship will help me with the cost of a new professional laptop. I’m so grateful for this. Thank you to NCRF. You do so much to help students on their court reporting journeys,” she added.
