Following a competitive selection process that drew 26 qualified applicants from across the country, Stenograph and the National Court Reporters Foundation (NCRF) are proud to announce the 2025 recipient of the inaugural Stenograph Milton H. Wright Memorial Scholarship. A panel of judges from Stenograph and NCRF reviewed the applications to identify a candidate who exemplifies both academic promise and a deep commitment to the profession.
“Along with Stenograph, the National Court Reporters Foundation is proud to announce Louis Markowitz of New York, N.Y., a student at Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C), as the recipient of the 2025 NCRF Stenograph Milton H. Wright Memorial Scholarship,” said NCRF Chair Doug Friend, FAPR, RDR, CRR (Ret). “With this generous award package, including a $5,000 tuition scholarship, a Stenograph writer, and professional software, we’re making a meaningful investment in the future of court reporting. Louis is a standout student who represents the bright future of our field.”
After sharing the news on a Zoom call with Markowitz that he was the award winner, Stenograph’s Vice President of Steno Sales Michelle McLaughlin said, “We’re thrilled to support the next generation of stenographers and to award this scholarship to Louis. His determination to succeed and commitment to the profession will surely bring him much success, and we’re honored to support his journey. We look forward to witnessing his professional achievements and to continued partnership with NCRF to bring more reporters into the profession.”
“We are excited to see Louis make his mark on our community and we wish him all the best,” said Stenograph President Thaly Palanisamy. “Stenograph’s Milton H. Wright Memorial Scholarship is designed to support the growth of the court reporting industry and assist students on their path to joining the profession.”
NCRF is honored to collaborate with Stenograph, which supports the Foundation’s mission of supporting hardworking students through scholarships that provide not only financial assistance, but also motivational encouragement.
Not only does this support bolster me as I continue to work to become a court reporter, but it also reaffirms my excitement to soon be part of this profession.
Louis Markowitz
Markowitz expressed surprise and was moved upon hearing the news during the Zoom call. “Thank you so much,” he said. “This is such an honor. I already really love being a part of this community. This gives me so much motivation to go home and practice on my machine. This is so awesome.”
Later via email Markowitz added, “I would like to offer my sincerest thanks to NCRA, NCRF, and the Stenograph team for this tremendous honor. Not only does this support bolster me as I continue to work to become a court reporter, but it also reaffirms my excitement to soon be part of this profession. I’m especially excited to start writing on the Luminex CSE.”
Angela Allenson, adjunct faculty at Tri-C in Parma, Ohio, praised Markowitz’s work ethic.
“I am so thrilled for Louis,” she said. “He is truly one of the hardest-working students I’ve had the pleasure of teaching. Louis gives 110 percent to his steno practice, lectures, and every continuing education opportunity. I have no doubt he will make excellent use of this scholarship and honor the memory of its namesake.”
In addition to the financial relief it provides, this scholarship enables recipients to dedicate more time to academics, practice, and skill-building — critical components of success in stenographic careers.
NCRF is pleased to announce that expanded scholarship opportunities for NCRA student members are underway. These awards play a vital role in validating and reinforcing the daily dedication of students pursuing careers in court reporting, CART captioning, and legal videography.
