The 2025 NCRA Conference & Expo kicked off Thurs., July 24 in Minneapolis, Minn. with the Annual Business Meeting, several vendor workshops, and a number of educational sessions. A special Veterans History Project event was also held which provided the opportunity for four veterans to share their military stories for preservation in the Library of Congress.
Vendor training workshops offered outside of the full conference registration were hosted by Stenograph, Advantage Software, and a Realtime workshop was sponsored by NCRA.
A special Veterans History Project (VHP) event, hosted by the National Court Reporters Foundation, captured the military experiences of Oather Martin, Commander, Minnesota Disabled American Veterans (DAV); Samuel M. Boney, IV, author of Combat Medic: A soldier’s story of the Iraq war and PTSD; Zach Johnson, who served in Iraq and Afghanistan with the U.S. Marine Corp and is a recipient of a Purple Heart award and a Combat Action ribbon, and founder and CEO of Roger Up, a nonprofit organization that utilizes the outdoors as a form of therapy for veterans suffering from PTSD; and Laura Munstreman, a veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Interviewers for the event included NCRA members Michael Bouley, RDR, Henderson, Nev.; Pat Graves, FAPR, RDR, CRR, CRC, Monument, Colo.; Deanna Oaks, RPR, Minneapolis, Minn.; and Meredith Bonn, RPR, CRR, Webster, N.Y. NCRA members Karen Tyler, RDR, CRR, CRC, Shreveport, La.; Lisa Johnston, RMR, CRR, CRC, Melbourne, Fla.; Amie First, RDR, CRR, CRC, CEP, Orlando, Fla.; and Sandy Narup, RPR, Apopka, Fla., captioned the interviews, while NCRA member Andrea Kreutz, CLVS, Des Moines, Iowa, videotaped them.
Afternoon educational sessions covered a variety of topics ranging from building a client base through online marketing, keyboard shortcuts, stenographers working with American Sign Language interpreters, and staying positive in a negative environment.
In addition, members of the National Congress of State Associations (NCSA) also met for their annual meeting to discuss legislative and other critical issues affecting court reporters, captioners, scopist, legal videographers, and associated professionals nationwide.
