NCRA expands outreach for prospective students

NCRA hosted its sixth Virtual Open House to educate prospective court reporting and captioning students on their options by featuring breakout rooms with several programs participating.

Mark Kislingbury, FAPR, RDR, CRR, remarked that the organization of the breakout rooms was “good for the schools to be able to greet students directly and answer their questions.”

The sentiment was echoed by the past and current participants of the NCRA A to Z® Intro to Steno Machine Shorthand program who attended to learn about their next steps into the profession.

Attendee Tatiana Jaile said she enjoyed how the breakout rooms provided ample privacy so that there were no interruptions. and that the format was helpful for allowing everyone’s questions to be answered.

Each school shared what makes them unique to help participants evaluate their options. It was “nice to compare the program structures and costs in real time,” remarked Maria DiSanto-Rose. She also said that she greatly appreciated receiving contact information as well. She left feeling very impressed and got more out of it than expected.

In November, NCRA will host a separate Open House for program partners to showcase the exclusive opportunities each vendor offers for those who complete the program, In addition, NCRA recently released a program list, a helpful listing of court reporting programs. Each program was invited to provide their information to be included on the webpage. The list offers another avenue for students to complete their research in finding a program that is right for them.
