NCRA Board of Directors adopts new AI position statement

In an email to members last week, NCRA President Cindy Isaacsen, RPR, shared that on Feb. 24, 2026, the Board of Directors adopted a new position statement that confirms the Association’s stance as it relates to the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) or Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) technology in capturing the official record.

The rationale behind this new position is simply that we recognize that as these technologies continue to evolve, despite their capabilities to be helpful as supplemental tools, we stand firm in the fact that they cannot create and preserve the record to the extent that a trained and certified human court reporter or captioner can.

This new position statement is below and can also be found on the NCRA website.
