On June 30 the Supreme Court of Alabama issued Order SC-ADM-ORD-0015, authorizing a voluntary pilot project to evaluate enhanced audio recording and transcription technology in trial courts. The Administrative Director of Courts may select participating counties and courtrooms after consulting the Chief Justice and presiding judges. Audio recordings will serve as the official record from which certified written transcripts (still required for appeals) are prepared. The project runs for three years with a possible two-year extension and annual reporting on accuracy, cost, and impact. All justices concurred.
