We all have people in our lives who have been instrumental in our success. The JCR recently asked members on social media: Who is someone in the profession who has made a big impact on you? Your responses are a reminder both that everyone needs a village to succeed and that it just takes a moment to say thank you to the people who inspired you.
Heidi Thomas, FAPR, RDR, CRR, CRC. The best mentor anyone could hope to have.
— JoRita Bell Meyer, RMR, CRR
It takes a village, Deanna Baker, Heidi Thomas, Pat Graves, FAPR, RDR, CRR, CRC.
— Darlene Rodella, RDR, CRR, CRC
Candace Mann. She took a 20-year-old and made her a professional. Also Rosalie Kramm, RPR, CRR. Another very big inspiration.
— Dana Peabody, RDR, CRR, CRC
Deanna Baker.
— Sonja Lewis Blake
My instructor, Katherine McNally. She passed away years ago. NCRA started doing an In Memoriam at its Conferences once I asked as a result of Katherine passing away.
— Chris DeGrazio
My beautiful aunt, Yvonne Griffith. If it weren’t for her, I wouldn’t know what a court reporter was. I used her manual machine to get through school. She was my rock, my mentor. Many memories of spending conventions sitting with her. Whenever I passed any test, she was always the one I’d call. I lost her to ALS a few years ago, but she’s with me every day I work. I do miss commiserating with her after one of us had a bad job or celebrating when we had a good one.
— Rhonda Hall-Breuwet, RDR, CRR

Pat Graves. I wouldn’t be a CART captioner if it wasn’t for Pat.
— Jo Gayle, RPR, CRR, CRC
Gayl Hardeman, FAPR, RDR, CRR, CRC, CRI (Ret.). Thank you for teaching me to be a captioner.
— Kimmy Barker Pruitt, RPR, CRR, CRC
Karyn Menck, RDR, CRR, CRC … boss, partner, friend. An encourager through good, bad, and difficult jobs at the beginning of my career … but forever a mentor.
— Cheryl Fuson Little, RPR, CRR, CRC
Denise Phipps-Hinxman, FAPR, RDR, CRR, CRC!
— Trisha Aldrich-Wester, RPR, CRR, CRC
Karyn Menck gave me the opportunity to do things I would never have done without her support! Heidi Thomas prepared me to be ready for those opportunities. What an amazing career! I owe these amazing ladies for it, but also so many others for the knowledge shared.
— Beth Frazier, RMR, CRR, CRC
Pat Graves.
— Kathy Cortopassi, RDR, CRR, CRC
Heidi Thomas; Alan Peacock, FAPR, RDR, CRR, CRC; and Judy Brentano.
— Candice Martin, RPR, CRR, CRC
Gayl Hardeman and Deanna Baker made such a huge impact on my life and career. I’m so blessed for both of them.
— Lisa Barnini Johnston, RMR, CRR, CRC
