Congratulations to Sherry Bryant, RMR, CRR, who won the NCRA Speed Contest, and Angela Sundell, RDR, CRR, CRC, who won the Realtime Contest. Bryant and Sundell received their trophies during the Awards Luncheon on Saturday, July 26, as part of the 2025 NCRA Conference & Expo.
For the Speed Contest, Bryant placed sixth in the Literary with 9 errors for a score of 98.182% and first in the Testimony with 11 errors for a score of 99.214%.
Erica McQuillen, RDR, CRR, received the second place overall medal for her performance, placing second place in Literary (5 errors, 99.545%) and second in Testimony as well (20 errors, 98.571%). She and Bryant were joined on the stage by third-place medalist Rose Detloff, RMR, CRR, who tied Bryant for sixth in the Literary leg and placed fourth in the Testimony leg (23 errors, 98.357%).
In the Realtime Contest, Sundell was the only person to qualify in both legs of the event. Her literary leg scored 95.9% (41 errors), and her two-voice leg earned her 97.067% with only 33 errors, for an overall combined accuracy of 96.483%. (Sundell also placed first in the Literary leg of the Speed Contest, with only 3 errors for a score of 99.727%.)
New processes were introduced this year to make the two competitions more efficient for both the contestants and the grading sequence, including eliminating one of the three traditional legs of the Speed Contest, limiting the number of competitors for both events, holding both contests on one day, and using EV360 software as a step in the grading process.
This year, the Speed Contest consisted of three legs: a Literary leg at 220 wpm and a Testimony (or Q&A) leg at 280 wpm. Contestants had 90 minutes to transcribe each leg.
The Realtime Contest consisted of two legs: Literary at 200 wpm and Two-voice (also known as Testimony) at 225 wpm. Contestants turned in a file immediately following the end of dictation for grading.
In both contests, contestants must receive 95 percent accuracy to qualify; accuracy also determines the winners.
