“Keep showing up” is the message Brynn Seymour, a freelancer from White Plains, N.Y., sends fellow reporters and NCRA members as they make their professional journey. She even wrote a song about it, the opening lines of which embody that mantra:
“You don’t always know who’s listening when you speak into the quiet. You don’t always see the difference when you’re somewhere. Somewhere in the middle of trying, a student finds a little courage. Someone stays another day.”
Her drive to advance the profession is the fuel behind her popular podcast, The Court Reporter Podcast, and as the recipient of the 2026 Carl Sauceda Grant, Seymour was recognized for her dedication to this cause.
She was formally honored at the 2026 NCRA Conference & Expo in Bellevue, Wash., this past July. Since then, she has written the song about the experience, which she debuted during a special episode of her show that featured National Court Reporters Foundation (NCRF) Director Jill Landsman, and NCRF Manager Alex Vlahopolous.

In the episode, the conversation “gets personal,” says Seymour, whose husband and co-host, Josh Seymour, speaks with NCRF’s Landsman and Vlahopoulos about why the Foundation chose his wife for the grant.

The Carl Sauceda Grant is offered through the National Court Reporters Foundation (NCRF). The annual $2,000 grant will be awarded to an NCRA member who is a court reporter or captioner and who has shared his or her knowledge by either helping to build a mentoring network, assisting others to advance their skills, or providing a comparable learning activity. Nominations open in March 2027.
