Got a story to tell?

If you want to see your name in print, now is your chance. The JCR is accepting submissions of articles related to the court reporting and captioning fields, as well as affiliated professions, such as legal videography and scoping. From briefs and glossaries to lessons learned to personal experiences, this is your opportunity to share what you have learned with your peers.

Based on readership surveys of NCRA members, glossaries and briefs are of particular interest to court reporters, captioners, and CART providers, while articles related to technology and business, such as marketing or managing your business, rated high among all member categories. In addition, articles about getting through school or teaching techniques rated highly with those categories. As is often said, only another court reporter can understand the unique challenges faced every day, as well as the incredible benefits inherent in the work.

Following are a sampling of concepts that may be used as starting points.

DON’T WANT TO WRITE?

If you don’t want to write but have a story idea, you can send in the information to JCR editor Jacqueline Schmidt at jschmidt@ ncra.org or call her at 703- 556-6272, ext. 164. You can also recommend NCRA members as people of interest for a profile or interview.

(Up to 1.0 PDC can be earn toward a certified reporter’s total 3.0 CEU requirement for each cycle.) PDCs can be earned on articles that require research and cannot be based on personal experience. In addition, to earn PDCs, the author must first contact the JCR Editor about the topic of the article to have it approved and, as a final step, must submit an outline of the article before submitting the final article. You can earn 0.25 PDC for a research article. Additional questions about this process can be sent to Jacqueline Schmidt at mailto:jschmidt@ncra.org.
