New York called on to fund judiciary

A March 24 letter to the editor in the New York Times discussed the New York budget and suggested that Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo should support a fully-funded judiciary. The letter, penned by Milton L. Williams, chairman for the Committee for Modern Courts, stated: “We call upon the governor, as we have upon the Legislature, to support the modest 2.5 percent increase in the judiciary budget proposed by the courts as well as the provision of sufficient funds ($5 million) to create 20 more family court judgeships, and $15 million for civil legal services for our poorest litigants.”
