Shortage in the court: Reporters dwindled but jobs still vital

On June 10, The Chief Leader posted an article quoting Eric Allen, president of the union that represents State Supreme Court reporters. Allen told court reporting students attending Plaza College in Queens, N.Y., that new technology in the field has brought its own challenges. He noted: “Without that human factor, when people talk over each other, or someone has an accent — when someone goes to type from the recording, they have no one to ask ‘What did they say?’”
