Livestream sessions from the 2021 NCRA Conference & Expo!

Selected sessions from the 2021 NCRA Conference & Expo are available to purchase and watch from the comfort of your home. All live sessions will be broadcast in Pacific time, and they all will be recorded. Purchase the sessions, and you will have 30 days to view recorded content.

There are three available packages. They are available to purchase until July 28 at midnight Eastern. Individual sessions will be offered for purchase in August.

  • Effective File Sharing Strategies for 2021 and the Future, 11 a.m.–12 p.m. Pacific
    Presenter: Brent A. Young
    Reporters all know the limitations of emailing files that are too large. You may already be using one of the many solutions available. But are there better ways to be more productive and more secure when sending and sharing files? Let’s find out. This session will cover the differences between online storage tools (Dropbox or Google drive) and file delivery services (WeTransfer and Attachmore) and what is best to use for the task at hand. We will also talk about how to securely transfer files in general or specifically to meet HIPAA requirements. Also, the session will offer fresh ideas on how to receive large files from others and how to collect payments for your files with ease.
  • Breaking the Language Barrier: Best Practices for International and Interpreted Depositions, 1:30–2:30 p.m. Pacific
    Presenter: Ian Hardy
    In this follow-up to his popular seminar, International Depositions 101, global deposition expert Hardy goes further into how to cover proceedings in international settings. He will discuss the key logistics of international depositions for reporters and videographers, the best ways to manage interpreted proceedings, and how remote technology can make anyone an international reporter. Learn industry-leading tips and tricks together with your colleagues in this fun, interactive seminar.
  • Nightmare on Zoom Street, 3–4 p.m. Pacific
    Presenters: Alan Peacock, FAPR, RDR, CRR, CRC; Kelli Ann Willis, RPR, CRR; and Denee’ Vadell
    What do you do when your videoconference or teleconference goes wrong? Many court reporters, captioners, and videographers are adjusting to a whole new world and learning how to incorporate Zoom, Teams, Skype, and many other products in their jobs. NCRA’s Technology Committee will offer suggestions for troubleshooting the problems that come up in making a remote courtroom, deposition, or captioning work.
  • Education Is Power – STRONG’s Sculpting Techniques, 4:15–5:15 p.m. Pacific
    Presenters: Sue Terry, FAPR, RPR, CRR, CRC; Phyllis Craver-Lykken, RPR
    NCRA STRONG’S Co-Chairs Terry and Craver-Lykken will share techniques that have been carefully sculpted over the past three years on how to best educate judges, attorneys, court administrators, broadcast companies, and other consumers of court reporting and captioning services. Harness the power of education-based advocacy. The reality is: “You don’t have to get ready if you stay ready.”

  • Unmute Yourself: Tips and Tricks to Communicate Effectively In and Out of the Workplace, 9–10 a.m. Pacific
    Presenters: Callie Sajdera, RPR, and Rachel Barkume, RPR, CRR
    Is speaking up a challenge for you? If so, join Sajdera and Barkume to explore communication challenges familiar to all stenographers. Gain the confidence to speak up on and off the record in your interactions with consumers like attorneys and judges, and to positively lead your team.
  • The Tech Show, 10:15–11:15 a.m. Pacific
    Presenters: Alan Peacock, FAPR, RDR, CRR, CRC, and Suzanne Trimble, RPR, CRR
    In this session, Technology Committee members will provide a look at some of the different gadgets and software court reporters and captioners use and share what to look for in the gadgets, apps, software, and other items that help you do your job better. This session will be helpful for anyone involved in the production of realtime feeds or transcripts, including officials, freelancers, and captioners. The panelists will also answer questions to help you learn ways to maximize technology to increase your productivity and overall effectiveness on the job.
  • Kids’ Court School: Educating Child and Adolescent Witnesses about the Court Process, 1:45–2:45 p.m. Pacific
    Presenter: Rebecca Nathanson, Ph.D.
    This session will provide an overview of the credibility of child witnesses and an in-depth presentation of the Kids’ Court School (KCS) program at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Through this session, participants will gain an understanding of child witness credibility, the KCS program, and the effects of the KCS program on child witnesses’ court-related stress.
  • Caption Delivery: Step-by-Step Directions on a Variety of Platforms, 3:15–4:15 p.m. Pacific
    Presenters: Kelly Linkowski, RPR, CRR, CRC, CPE; Lindsay Stoker, RPR, CRC; Heidi Thomas, FAPR, RDR, CRR, CRC; and Becky Tallarico, RPR, CRR, CRC
    The presenters will share step-by-step directions on a variety of platforms and software that will help you feel confident accepting any job.
