Boot Camp is finally here!

State leaders (and aspiring state leaders!) are invited to attend the 2023 NCRA Leadership & Legislative Boot Camp, being held Feb. 26-28, 2023, at the Embassy Suites by Hilton in Alexandria Old Town, Va. After being postponed due to the pandemic, NCRA is excited to bring together leaders once again for an immersive hands-on opportunity to advocate for the court reporting, captioning, legal videography, scopist, and associated legal professions. Registration is open now!

For the past three years, state leaders missed the experience, and many of them expressed their excitement to attend on the NCRA Leadership email list. Those who have attended in the past shared stories about what they learned and encouraged the new leaders to take advantage of this unique experience.

“I loved Boot Camp,” said Mellony Ariail, RMR, CRR, CRC, of Weatherford, Texas. “It came right before my legislative year as president of Texas Court Reporters Association. It was a crazy year, derailed in any normal sense by COVID-19. The lessons and invaluable experiences and contacts I made gave me confidence to weather the dicey legislative year and fend off ER imposters. I also made valuable contacts with legislators in my state who were our allies in protecting the integrity of the record.”

Dave Wenhold, CAE, PLC, NCRA’s Executive Director, and Jocelynn Moore, J.D., NCRA Director of Government Relations, will lead the event with additional guest speakers to round out the schedule.

“NCRA’s Legislative Boot Camp is undoubtedly intimidating, but the insight into the legislative process is priceless,” said Jennifer L. Kissic of Talladega, Ala., who is serving as president of the Alabama Court Reporters Association. “The workshops make you get out of your comfort zone and help prepare you for any grassroots efforts you might be faced with in your state. Dave and Jocelynn are both invaluable assets to the court reporting community.”

Attendees will:

  • Participate in intensive sessions and training that will teach them the skills and strategies necessary to effectively advocate for their profession in state legislatures and in Congress;
  • Participate in real-life scenarios where they can put their newly learned advocacy skills into practice and network with other NCRA members who are passionate about their profession; and
  • Have the chance to visit Capitol Hill, where they will put their grassroots advocacy training to the test and advocate before their elected representatives and staff in Congress.
