Help us support student attendance at #NCRAHouston

Help students learn, connect, and celebrate this year by donating to help them attend the 2023 NCRA Conference & Expo being held July 27-30 in Houston, Texas. NCRA members have the opportunity to support students by making a small donation to the NCRA Student Conference & Expo Fund. Donations to the fund help lower the overall cost of attendance for student members. These donations enable us to provide a discounted member rate for students of $295.

Christine Moers, a student who learned theory at the Mark Kislingbury Academy of Court Reporting from Austin, Texas, and is currently learning speedbuilding through SimplySteno, is attending her third NCRA Conference in July. “I am super thrilled that [the Conference] is in Texas,” Moers said. “Most of us are in school online. Going to the Conference, you get to finally connect in person. The easiest way to meet people at the Conference is to introduce yourself when you are standing in line. Say you are a student. That is how I met everyone. They light up the second you say you are a student.”

Donations can range from $50, $100, or $200 to the entire student registration of $295. Individual donations are combined to offset the overall Conference costs, which allows all students to pay the reduced fee. Students get access to all sessions and events except for the Member Recognition Gala, although at past Conferences attendees have donated their tickets to students who wish to attend the Saturday night event. Sponsorship donations can be made at the time of online Conference registration or on site at the NCRA registration desk. Donations can also be made by texting the keyword studentHouston to 41444 or by using this link.

This year’s student track includes three sessions designed especially for them by the NCRA Student/Teacher Committee: Test Prep in Court Reporting School and Beyond; From Student to Steno Reporter: Tips and Insights from Recent Graduates; and Student Speed Dating. Students are also invited to a Student Breakfast sponsored by Nell McCallum & Associates.

In addition, students may attend any of the concurrent sessions. See the full schedule here. The following sessions may be of particular interest to students:

  • The Next Generation of Steno
  • Short Writing!
  • The Mirror Method: One Concept, 1000+ Briefs
  • Bridging the Gap: Real-World Advice for Easing the Transition from Graduation to Freelancing
  • Steno, Social Media, and Self-Care
  • Interested in Federal Court Reporting? Ask a Federal Reporter
  • The Complete Guide to Court Reporter Audio

Full registration for those working in the profession includes access to all concurrent seminars being held Friday through Sunday, a three-day Expo Hall pass, tickets to the Opening Reception on Thursday, the Premier Session and keynote on Friday, the Awards Luncheon on Saturday afternoon, and the Member Recognition Gala on Saturday evening. Full registration attendees can earn up to 1.275 Continuing Education Units (CEUs).

In addition, full registration includes a free breakfast on Friday and Saturday for those staying in the host hotel. Book your room at the Hyatt Regency Houston Downtown by July 3 and take advantage of the special rates being offered for Conference attendees.
