Now open for two awardees: Carl Sauceda Grant honors legacy of service

Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Jan. 15, marked the opening of NCRF’s third annual Carl Sauceda Grant. This year two grants in the amount of $2,000 each will be awarded to NCRA member winners who are court reporters or captioners and who have shared their knowledge by either helping to build a mentoring network, assisting others to advance their skills, or providing a comparable outreach activity. The deadline to apply or nominate a colleague is March 29, 2024.

The grant is named in honor of Carl Sauceda, FAPR, RMR (Ret.), of Hayward, Calif. Sauceda was elected to serve as NCRA President from 1999 to 2000, but his legacy of giving back to others continues today. The grant’s purpose is to recognize those who have influenced the lives of rising court reporters. “[Receiving this grant] will be an honor for the recipient to continue to promote and support the profession,” said Sauceda.

Drohosky, RMR, CRR, CRI, an official federal court reporter from Hammond, Ind., and Erminia Uviedo, RDR, CRR, CRC, a court reporter and captioner from San Antonio, Texas.

The grants were awarded to these recipients by NCRF Trustees in recognition of their work to promote the profession to others, the influence they have had in the lives of rising court reporters, and their continuous commitment to supporting the stenographic court reporting and captioning professions.

Sauceda shared his thoughts on being honored with a grant in his name in the February 2022 issue of the Journal of Court Reporting.
