Explore. Learn. Connect. Why the 2025 NCRA Conference & Expo is a must-attend event, according to NCRF Ask Me Anything panelists

Learning, networking, and fun — what could be a better combination for attendees heading to NCRA’s premier annual event in Minneapolis this July?

Minneapolis offers a dynamic mix of outdoor adventures, cultural attractions, and family-friendly experiences. Prince fans can even tour Paisley Park, his legendary recording studio and home, either before or after earning CEUs at NCRA sessions.

For insider tips and inspiration, watch the National Court Reporters Foundation’s Ask Me Anything, “Get the Most Out of the NCRA Conference” which took place last month over Zoom. A major draw for attendees will be the opportunity to elevate their impact — connecting with fellow court reporters, captioners, and legal videographers from across the country.

NCRA President-Elect Cindy Isaacsen, RPR, spoke about the ease of making connections. “We all have something in common, we all went to court reporting school,” she said. “We all have this machine in common. You never know what else you might share. If you don’t find friends, that means you’re not trying. Take a picture with your new friends.”

Local travel insights from Minneapolis resident Maria Weinbeck, RMR, offered advice to navigate the city. “I recommend Uber or a taxi from the airport,” Weinbeck said. “The light rail is about eight blocks from the hotel, but if you have luggage, I wouldn’t recommend it. Taxis often cost less than Uber.”

Jan Ballman, FAPR, RPR, CMRS, noted the significance of the event returning to the city. “1988 was the last time NCRA held a Conference in Minneapolis,” she said. “I encourage all local students to attend. These events are investments — you’ll learn about the latest tech, strategies to overcome professional challenges, and so much more.”

Jennifer Sati, RMR, CRR, CRC, CRI, a local court reporter and instructor at Anoka Technical College in Anoka, Minn., shared what energizes her. “For me, it’s the Speed and Realtime Contests — and especially the results [at the Saturday Awards Luncheon],” she said. “The room explodes with excitement. And [during the NCRA Premier Session] the keynote speaker will make you feel like you can climb Mt. Everest.”

The oversized spoon curves over a pond, balancing a large red cherry with a long black stem that doubles as a fountain. Lush green trees and scattered visitors fill the park, with the historic Basilica of Saint Mary and a blue rooster sculpture visible in the background under a partly cloudy sky.

Students can find tailored breakout sessions and social events by checking the Conference schedule page or the NCRA Conference app when it becomes available later this summer. Kari Lindberg, student reporter and panelist, emphasized the value of attending. “Each Conference is a great learning experience,” she said. “I’ve met so many people I have things in common with. It’s an essential step in a student’s path. Many students find roommates to share hotel costs. I’ve seen posts about that online.”

Amy Doman, RDR, CRR, a self-described shoe enthusiast and Speed Contest veteran, shared her excitement. “I’m a Speed Contest competitor and love the Awards Luncheon,” Doman said. “I never go to the Conference without having a jaw-drop moment.”

NCRF Chair Meredith Bonn, RPR, CRR, promoted NCRF’s Expo booth, where raffle tickets can be purchased to win a chance at:

Trustees will also recognize NCRF Angel Donors — those who donate a minimum of $1,000 to NCRF within a year — at the Angel Thank You Luncheon, which will take place on Friday during the Conference.
