In a rare bipartisan vote of 99-1 at around 4 a.m. on Tuesday, July 1, the U.S. Senate rejected a provision in President Donald J. Trump’s “One Big Beautiful Bill” that would have barred states from regulating artificial intelligence (AI) for a decade.
“This vote recognizes the known unknowns of integrating AI into America’s justice system.” said Colin Brehm, NCRA’s State Government Relations Manager.
President Trump has pushed Congress to pass the bill by July 4, hoping to sign it into law on Independence Day.
