JCR | How did you hear about court reporting?
DH | I was working as a waitress at Western Sizzlin in high school and one of my coworkers was talking about how a relative just enrolled in court reporting, and I was intrigued! I asked if she could find out where the program was so I could get more information. I called the school, and they mailed a huge packet of information for me to review, after which I set a date to visit and be interviewed for admission to the program.
JCR | Why did you want to serve on the board?
DH | Court reporting has been so good to me. There are so many facets, and I’ve worked in so many different arenas. I absolutely love this profession being a guardian of the record and also being able to provide CART captioning to those who need it. I would love to be able to pass some of the knowledge that I’ve learned on to others and also to ensure that this profession thrives.
JCR | What’s one thing that people probably don’t already know about you?
DH | I dive with sharks! All kidding aside, I am an avid SCUBA diver. That 71 percent of the world that most have never explored is an incredible miracle, and I love to share that passion with my friends, children, and grandchildren.
