NCRA Board of Directors: 2024-2027

RH | My high school English teacher encouraged me to meet with a court reporting school representative who visited our school to promote their program. I had never heard of court reporting before, but it instantly felt like a perfect fit. My strength in English, my typing skills, and my fascination with legal matters aligned seamlessly with the profession. The school’s downtown Minneapolis location, conveniently accessible by bus, and its two-year program made it highly appealing. However, it took me three-and-a-half years to get through the program before launching my court reporting career. I started working as a freelancer for eight years and then an official for the last 26 years.

RH | My passion for serving on the Board was sparked by my experience as president of my state association, which led me to attend national Conferences and the Leadership & Legislative Boot Camps. These events opened doors to connect with NCRA Board members, whom I once viewed as distant, almost legendary figures. Through those personable and informal interactions, I built some relationships and was thrilled when a Board member encouraged me to consider serving as a Director. Energized by the inspiration and camaraderie of those Conferences, I felt compelled to step up, contribute actively, and give back to the organization beyond just paying my dues.

RH | Most people don’t know that I starred in a commercial for the Minnesota School of Business court reporting program right after graduating in 1991. As a shy, hobbit-like person, I was an unlikely choice to be in a TV commercial representing the program, but it was a blast! For a while, I got recognized randomly at stores and bars across the Twin Cities — people declaring, “Hey, you’re the girl from the ad!” The downside? The late-night commercial included my full name, leading to some creepy middle-of-the-night calls — mostly hang-ups, but a few heavy breathers— until I got my number unlisted.
