2026 Court Reporting & Captioning Week plans are shaping up

Celebrations are gearing up for NCRA’s 2026 Court Reporting & Captioning Week being observed Feb. 7-14. For the 14th consecutive year, NCRA members, court reporting programs, students, vendors, and others with an interest in the legal fields will celebrate the stenographic court reporting and captioning professions with festivities ranging from special webinars to virtual gatherings, fundraising runs, silent auctions, and more. Below are just a few of the activities already being planned to celebrate this year’s theme: Peace, Love & Steno. (Haven’t made your plans yet? There’s still time! Find ideas at NCRA.org/awareness.)

The Student/Teacher Committee is planning a webinar on Feb. 11 titled Steno Habits: The Science of Building Skills that Stick.

The webinar will dive into the science of habit formation and how it applies directly to your journey as a court reporting student. Attendees will also learn how to build routines that support skill growth, overcome procrastination, and stay motivated through plateaus.

Confirmed speakers so far are:

  • Lee Leigh (Lili), RPR, CRI, a court reporter and captioner from Madison, Wis., and chair of NCRA’s Student/Teacher Committee
  • Chris DeGrazio, a freelance court reporter from Fort Pierce, Fla., and chair of NCRA’s Marketing, Membership, and Outreach Committee.

The Student/Teacher Committee is also amid planning a “virtual” Student Celebration. Watch the JCR Weekly and the theJCR.com for more details about both events as 2026 Court Reporting & Captioning Week gets closer.

Speaking of virtual, StenoStrides, a nonprofit organization committed to promoting verbatim reporting and supporting students on their journey to 225 and beyond, is holding its 6th Strides for Steno Virtual 5K Walk/Run throughout the week. Early bird registration is open now.

The Strides for Steno event is the organization’s main source of fundraising that is used to impact the reporting community and spread awareness about the profession. The virtual 5K can be done anywhere by anyone. Participants just need to snap a picture and share it on StenoStrides’ Facebook page. Proceeds from this event will benefit StenoStrides and its initiative of promoting verbatim reporting one stride at a time.

The organization will also hold its Strides for Students Silent Auction during the week. Everyone is encouraged to follow the StenoStrides Facebook page for more information about how to participate in this event that funds student scholarships. The silent auction event has supported $9,000 in scholarships to students over the past three years.
