NCRA’s 2026 Court Reporting & Captioning Week is kicking off on Sat., Feb. 7 with a number of exciting events planned throughout the week, and everyone is invited!
Nothing inspires more than training
If you are a member of the Virginia Court Reporters Association (VCRA), you can take advantage of three free training sessions on Feb. 7. Nonmembers are also welcome to join for a $35 fee per class. CEUs are not being offered for any of these sessions. See the links below to register.
Eclipse: 10:00-11:00 (Trainer: Jen Thompson)
ProCat: 10:30-11:30 (Trainer: Robin Delloro)
CATalyst: 11:00-12:00 (Trainer: Tony Frisolone)

The New York State Court Reporters Association (NYSCRA) is also hosting a day of training in celebration of the week. On Feb. 7 from 11 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Eastern, members, nonmembers, and students are invited to attend “Let’s Reset Your Realtime Now!” — an inspiring Zoom session that will offer test-taking tips for realtime certification, number conversions for Eclipse and AccelerWriters for Case, dictionary building, and more. The cost is $75 for NYSCRA members, $95 for nonmembers, and $25 for students. Attendees will earn 0.60 CEUs. For more information or to register, download the QR code that appears on the flyer.
Off the Record for #CRCW2026: Grammar, Grit, and a Little Rebellion

Join Deb DuBuc, RPR, CRI, CPE (Des Moines Area Community College) Monday, Feb. 9 at 6 p.m. Central (7 p.m. Eastern) for a light-hearted discussion of Rebel With a Clause by Ellen Jovin as part of #CRCW2026. No time to read the book before then? No worries. This isn’t English class, and it’s definitely not a CE test — just a lively, low-pressure conversation about language, grammar pet peeves, and what happens when you stop correcting people and start listening. Perfect for court reporters who spend their days turning spoken chaos into the written record and for students learning to do the same, this session will blend humor, grammar, curiosity, and your best “they really said that” moments. Expect a fun discussion and zero realtime required (unless you want to, of course). Come for the grammar. Stay for the people. Off the record … mostly.

Cuyahoga Community College’s captioning and court reporting program is sponsoring “A Time Management Workshop” via Zoom on Feb. 10 at 7 p.m. Eastern. The session features Nada Djordjevich, a time management, performance improvement, and adult learning expert, and will offer attendees an opportunity to engage in an interactive discussion and workshop to help students succeed in the profession. All students and professionals are welcome to attend. For more information or to register, click here.
Karaoke anyone?

Court Reporter “Love” Karaoke via Zoom, hosted by NCRA Director Margary Rogers, RPR, CRI, a captioner from Washington, D.C., starts the week off on Feb. 7 at 8 p.m. Eastern. This year’s event marks the 5th time Rogers has hosted a karaoke event in honor of Court Reporting & Captioning Week.
“Let’s get together for the Love of Steno & Voice. Vibe off of some of your favorite love songs as you cheer on Steno & Voice Karaoke writers as they write in realtime to their favorite love songs live,” Rogers said. “We will celebrate our skills in a ‘lovely’ way during Court Reporting & Captioning Week.”
Participants will write in steno or voice to their favorite love song or one they feel comfortable writing to and will share their realtime display outlines. Scan the QR code on the flyer or click here to register. The event is free to all participants.
NCRA committees celebrate the week
NCRA’s Next Generation & Legacy Committee is hosting a special Zoomup call with a giveaway open to students, new professionals, seasoned reporters, members, and nonmembers on Feb. 10 at 8 p.m. Eastern to celebrate the week. “An Introduction: Connecting New Professionals with Legacy Professionals” will provide attendees with an overview of the committee’s mission and work that includes ways to assist, support, and motivate those in the court reporting and captioning professions. The discussion will also offer insights and answers to some thought-provoking questions the committee has received from students and mentees as well as share with working reporters ways they can help promote the profession. Register here.
Also on the agenda is a rollout of an FAQ page and query submission process by new professionals, more on the committee’s quarterly Zoomup meetings, how to volunteer as a Career Launcher reviewer, and Q&As focused on new professionals, practice, and mindset. There will also be a special giveaway for new working professionals.
NCRA’s Next Generation and Legacy Committee brings together veteran and emerging court reporters and captioners to foster mentorship, collaboration, and the exchange of expertise. By connecting experience with fresh perspectives, the committee works to honor the traditions of the profession while encouraging innovation that supports its future growth.
Make plans to attend the Student/Teacher Committee’s webinar on Feb. 11 titled “Steno Habits: The Science of Building Skills that Stick.” The webinar will dive into the science of habit formation and how it applies directly to your journey as a court reporting student. Attendees will also learn how to build routines that support skill growth, overcome procrastination, and stay motivated through plateaus.
Confirmed speakers to date include:
- Lee Leigh (Lili), RPR, CRI, a court reporter and captioner from Madison, Wis., and chair of NCRA’s Student/Teacher Committee
- Chris DeGrazio, a freelance court reporter from Fort Pierce, Fla., and chair of NCRA’s Membership, Marketing, and Outreach (MMO) Committee
NCRA’s Membership, Marketing & Outreach Committee invites everyone to get crafty at its court reporters event via Zoom on Feb. 12 starting at 8 p.m. Eastern. The event is being hosted by MMO Chair Chris DeGrazio and committee member Darlene Devlin, an official court reporter and CART captioner from Patchogue, N.Y. Attendees are encouraged to bring whatever project they are working on, such as crocheting, knitting, painting, drawing, or puzzles, and enjoy a relaxed hour of conversation, collaboration, and community. In addition to listening to music and vibing out, the event will also feature recent graduates and recently certified reporters who will share how they achieved their success. Registration is free.
In honor of Court Reporting & Captioning Week, NCRA’s Captioning Committee has created Scheduling a CART/Captioning Event: A Guide to Comprehensive Intake. The two-page guide provides tips on on-site and remote events, open and closed captioning, platform examples, prep, setup, and more.
