Time to step up: NCRA seeks Board of Directors candidates

The strength of NCRA’s mission stems directly from the commitment of its members. We know that the talent, unique skills, and diverse experience within our community are our greatest assets, and it is through volunteer leadership that these assets truly make a difference.

Now is the moment to channel that passion by stepping up and nominating yourself or a colleague for a seat on the NCRA Board of Directors. As a Board member, you’re not just taking on a leadership role, you’re taking on a direct role in shaping the future of our profession. You will be at the forefront of guiding the Association’s direction and key initiatives, ensuring we remain a strong, supportive resource for court reporters, captioners, and videographers everywhere.

The deadline to submit nominations is Jan. 12, 2026.

Eligibility for Elective Office

According to Article III, Section 9 (c) of the NCRA Constitution & Bylaws, only Registered Members who are verbatim stenographic reporters and/or stenographic captioners, Retired Members, Retired Lifetime Members, or Honorary Members who have been verbatim stenographic reporters and/or stenographic captioners are eligible to hold an elective office.

Who Can Recommend Candidates?

Only voting members of NCRA can submit individuals for candidacy. This includes Participating Members, Registered Members, Retired Members, Retired Lifetime Members, and Honorary Members who have been verbatim stenographic reporters and/or stenographic captioners.

When recommending yourself or another candidate, consider the qualities the Nominating Committee seeks:

  • Dedication and commitment to the profession
  • Ability to work collaboratively as a team player
  • Strong communication skills
  • Outstanding reputation and character
  • Proven leadership abilities
  • Visionary thinking and thought leadership

Board service is uncompensated and requires significant time commitments. Most expenses involved in Board service are reimbursable.

Service as an Officer

Positions on the Executive Committee of the Board are typically filled by those who have served or are currently serving on the NCRA Board. With NCRA’s membership of nearly 10,000 members and a budget of almost $5 million, it is crucial for candidates to have experience as a director to understand and fulfill the responsibilities of these roles.

The Election Process

The Nominating Committee, as outlined in the Constitution and Bylaws, meets at least 90 days prior to the annual election to create a slate of nominees for the following offices:

  • President-Elect
  • Vice President
  • Secretary-Treasurer
  • Two Directors (three-year terms)
