The National Court Reporters Foundation (NCRF) application period for the Allison Hall Reporting Education (AHRE) Shine Student Scholarship opened this week. Four $1,000 scholarships are available to support students advancing in their court reporting and captioning education.
Established by NCRF Angel Allie Hall, RDR, CRR, CRI, owner of Allison Hall Reporting Education, this new annual NCRF scholarship is designed to support students who demonstrate dedication, professionalism, and progress in their stenographic training.
“Most scholarship awards are for students at speeds of 180 wpm or above,” said Allison Hall. “I chose to fund the AHRE Shine Scholarship to highlight students working their way through mid-speeds and to provide four equal scholarship amounts to help encourage them to ‘shine’ through the remainder of their journey.”
NCRF Chair Doug Friend, FAPR, RDR, CRR (Ret.), likes this new scholarship offering as it has different criteria. “I personally LOVE that we are offering these scholarships at a lower threshold,” he said. “When I was in school with manual machines and paper notes, if someone passed 140 [wpm], that was the big hurdle of going into automatic mode. And a financial boost at that speed would be a real encouragement.”

- Be enrolled in a stenographic court reporting program
- Have passed at least one Q&A or literary test at a minimum of 140 words per minute

The AHRE Shine Student Scholarship reflects NCRF’s ongoing commitment to supporting students as they build the skills necessary for success in the profession.
