Have you started collecting stamps for your NCRA Passport? If you attended the NCRA Conference & Expo in Bellevue, Wash., or watched any of the livestreamed sessions, you are eligible to earn stamps toward rewards. These are just a couple of ways to take part in NCRA Engage, which launched in June. This month we are highlighting professional growth, promotion, and leadership opportunities that can help you keep filling in your passport.
Content and leadership opportunities
If you have ever thought about sharing your skills and expertise with colleagues, consider submitting a proposal for the NCRA Conference & Expo, our premier membership event. Each year, practitioners from across the country gather to network, learn, and share ideas that strengthen the profession – and enjoy the many benefits of being a presenter. You will:
- Receive a complimentary seminars-only registration.
- Earn CEUs by attending educational sessions.
- Earn PDCs for presenting your session.
- Present an approved session as a webinar after the Conference for members who could not attend in person.
- Purchase a discounted speaker registration that includes networking activities.
The call for presentations is now open, and members may submit proposals through Dec. 31, 2026. Visit NCRA.org to review potential topics and submit your proposal.
Share your voice in NCRA publications
If you are not ready to present at Conference, consider writing an article for the JCR, the Association’s official magazine, or for JCR Weekly, NCRA’s weekly e-newsletter. Up to Speed, our student newsletter is also another outlet to consider for sharing information that you think may be especially interesting for students in court reporting school. Each publication gives members and students a platform to share their experience, and perspectives with the profession.
To submit content, review the Writers Guidelines, then send articles, transcript excerpts, cartoons, letters to the editor, or other content to jcrfeedback@ncra.org.
Grow professionally and earn Passport stamps
NCRA membership offers valuable opportunities for professional development and career advancement. You can earn Passport stamps by applying for scholarships and grants offered by NCRA and the National Court Reporters Foundation. These opportunities support students, new professionals, and seasoned professionals in court reporting and captioning. Visit our Scholarships and Grants page to review current offerings and submit your application today.
Earning or renewing a certification is another way to build your skills and earn an NCRA Passport stamp. Registration is now open for the Online Skills Test, with testing available Sept. 1-20. To be eligible for the September testing period, you must register by Aug. 20. Visit the Online Skills Test Information Center to get started.
Promote court reporting, captioning, and legal videography
Help grow the ranks of the profession by taking part in career fairs and school visits. NCRA members are the heart of the Association and the best messengers for showing the next generation the benefits of careers in court reporting, captioning, and legal videography. NCRA offers free downloadable outreach materials you can take to your next event.
These activities, and many more, can earn you stamps toward the grand prize, which includes a 2027 NCRA Conference & Expo registration, a complimentary hotel night at Conference, and more. Second- and third-place prizes include free NCRA memberships, continuing education, and other rewards.
The official prize list can be found on the NCRA Engage page under the NCRA Passport section. There are more than two dozen activities you can choose from to earn stamps.
Other ways to win
Don’t forget the other rewards available through NCRA Engage: Skills Testing Rewards and Webinar Rewards. Right now folks who register for any combination of WKT or SKT testing legs (for a total of five) are eligible to earn one free skills test. You can also earn rewards when you sign up for any of the webinars in the Learning Center. When you purchase seven webinars you are eligible to earn an eighth one for free. Everyone is encouraged to participate in all three opportunities simultaneously. There is no limit on participation.
