Our Association is powered by the voices of our members. As a vibrant, volunteer-powered community, we rely on the unique skills and expertise each of you brings to the court reporting, captioning, and legal videography community.
Now is your chance to make a lasting impact. Nominations are officially open for the NCRA Board of Directors. Whether you step up to lead yourself or nominate a valued colleague, taking on a board position means volunteering to ensure our profession and our Association remain resilient, innovative, and strong.
Make a difference through NCRA Board service
Serving on the Board is not just about leadership; it is an opportunity to expand and strengthen your network of peers and increase NCRA’s influence within the legal profession. As a Board member, you will be at the forefront of guiding the Association’s direction and initiatives, making a lasting difference for all members.
Eligibility for elective office
According to Article III, Section 9 (c) of the NCRA Constitution & Bylaws, only Registered Members who are verbatim stenographic reporters and/or stenographic captioners, Retired Members, Retired Lifetime Members, or Honorary Members who have been verbatim stenographic reporters and/or stenographic captioners are eligible to hold an elective office.
How to recommend a candidate
Only voting members of NCRA can submit individuals for candidacy. This includes Participating Members, Registered Members, Retired Members, Retired Lifetime Members, and Honorary Members who have been verbatim stenographic reporters and/or stenographic captioners.
The committee looks for members who are committed to NCRA’s mission, willing to listen to different perspectives, able to work collaboratively, and prepared to devote the time needed to serve. Leadership experience, sound judgment, and a willingness to make decisions in the best interests of the Association are also valuable. Board service is uncompensated and requires significant time commitments. Most expenses involved in Board service are reimbursable.
Service as an officer
Executive Committee positions are typically filled by members who currently serve or have previously served on the NCRA Board. With nearly 10,000 members and a budget approaching $5 million, NCRA benefits from officers who bring firsthand experience with Board responsibilities and the Association’s operations.
The election process
The Nominating Committee, as outlined in the Constitution and Bylaws, meets at least 90 days prior to the annual election to create a slate of nominees for the following positions:
- President-Elect
- Vice President
- Secretary-Treasurer
- Two Directors (three-year terms)
