Reporter promotes profession at “speed jobbing” event

On March 19, Cindy Simmons, RPR, of Leavenworth, Wash., attended a “Speed Jobbing” event held at Okanogan High School in Okanogan, Wash. Students rotated among various professionals to learn about future careers.

“I had a judge on my right and an insurance agent on my left. The kids would simply slide down in front of the next professional every four to five minutes, and we would start our talk again. I was there about two hours and talked to lots and lots of kids,” said Simmons.

Simmons said she spoke about the court reporting profession with more than 50 students and provided them with information on schools, including Green River College’s current scholarship opportunity, salaries, statistics, and available employment as a court reporter or captioner.
