As we progress into 2022, be sure to mark your calendars for these important upcoming NCRA dates and events. You don’t want to miss out on exciting webinars, testing registrations, scholarship and grant opportunities, the 2022 NCRA Conference & Expo in Orlando, Fla., and more!

Events and dates are subject to change. Throughout the year NCRA will announce updates and any changes in event scheduling in the JCR Weekly, via email, and on the NCRA website as well as on our FacebookTwitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn pages. Jan 1 | NCRA Distinguished Service Award Nominations Open

Honor a deserving member by recommending them to be recognized for their important contributions to the profession.

Jan. 8 | NCRA Town Hall  11 a.m.-12 p. m. Eastern

NCRA President Debbie Dibble, RDR, CRR, CRC, hosts a series of virtual town halls, during which she presents updates about the Association followed by a question-and-answer period with members.

Jan. 11 | NCRA Board Service Webinar 8-9 p.m. Eastern

Register for the next Board service webinar scheduled for Jan. 11, 2022, to learn more about NCRA Board service.

Jan. 12 | Live Webinar: Making Your Videographer Your Partner 8-9 p.m. Eastern | Presenters: Mike Hensley, RDR; Andrea Kreutz, CLVS; Justin Donnelly, CLVS

In this session, high-tech court reporter Mike Hensley, RDR, asks legal videographers and NCRA members Andrea Kreutz, CLVS, and Justin Donnelly, CLVS, all the questions you’ve ever wanted to ask your videographer but never had the time to. Together, they will help you find good settings for your audio and video in your in-person and Zoom depositions, as well as best practices for working together. (0.10 CEU)

Jan. 14 | NCRF Career Launcher Grants Close

NCRF will be offering five to seven grants each quarter that will cover the cost for students to participate in the NCRF Career Launcher program.

Jan. 17 | NCRF Carl Sauceda Grant Opens

The NCRF Carl Sauceda Grant will be awarded annually to candidates who have demonstrated clear effort and sacrifice in time or funds, showing dedication to the future of court reporting or captioning.

Jan. 21 | NCRA Board of Directors Nominations Deadline 

Nominations for the Board of Directors close. Board Members serve with others as fiduciaries to steer the organization toward a sustainable future.

Jan. 25 | Stenograph’s Milton H. Wright Memorial Scholarship Deadline

Stenograph’s Milton H. Wright Memorial Scholarship honors the memory of Milton H. Wright, Stenograph’s founder. Students from NCRA-approved reporter education programs are encouraged to apply for the award, which is worth up to $5,000 and will include the use of a student writer and software.

Jan. 31 | Continuing Education Credit(s) Extension Deadline 

If you filed a certification cycle extension, you need continuing education credits by this date to maintain your certification.

Feb. 1 | Fellows of the Academy of Professional Reporters Nominations Open

A professional distinction conferred upon a person of outstanding and extraordinary qualifications and experience in the field of shorthand reporting. Candidates for Fellowship are required to have been in the active practice of reporting for at least 10 years and to have attained distinction as measured by performance.

Feb. 1 | NCRA A to Z ® Scholarships Open 

Students who have completed an NCRA A to Z® Intro to Steno Machine Shorthand program and are enrolled in a court reporting program are encouraged to apply for consideration of one of ten $500 scholarship awards.

Feb. 1 | NCRA CASE Scholarships Open 

The top prize of $1,500 is the Sue Shelton White Scholarship, named in honor Sue Shelton White. Four additional scholarships are available in the amounts of $250, $500, $750, and $1000.

Feb. 1-20 | Online Skills Tests Registration 

RSR, RPR, RMR, CRR, and CRC registration is open for the March 120 testing window. Registration ends at midnight Eastern.

Feb. 5-12 | 2022 Court Reporting & Captioning Week

Join court reporting and captioning professionals nationwide in celebrating and showcasing their profession. Be sure to use the hashtag #CRCW2022 when posting online.

Feb. 9 | Learning Center Webinar: Stretching Your Career | Presenter: Lorilee Norby

You have the skills and knowledge for a successful career in court reporting or captioning and are on your way to reaching all of your goals! Now learn some healthful and helpful techniques to ensure that your body and mind can keep up with your work for the long term. Be guided through hand, shoulder and neck stretches, yoga, and breathing exercises that can be done quickly and easily during your busy day. (0.10 CEU)

Feb. 21-25 | Mental Health Week Sessions

NCRA is hosting its second Mental Health Week Feb. 2125 and encourages all members to take advantage of the webinars that will be offered to all NCRA members free of charge on Feb. 22, 23, and 24. Webinars will be available for viewing afterwards in the free content section of the NCRA Learning Center. (no CEUs awarded)

March 1-31 | Written Knowledge Tests Registration

March 3 | Learning Center Webinar: Make Your Excel Excellent | Presenter: Kenya Herring

Excel is probably the most commonly used software in the world for creating charts. And charts are the main tools to visualize the insights from some numbers. At first you will learn the basics of Excel charts: How to create them quickly and how to choose the right chart type for your data. Then you will work with the advanced tools within different task panes to use with Excel charts. (0.10 CEU)

March 9 | Learning Center Webinar: Insights and Strategies for Legal Video Site Inspections | Presenter: Robert Butcher, CLVS

Attendees will get an understanding of the wide range of environments and requirements covered under the video site inspections. Additionally, we will look at tools, tricks, and out-of-the-box strategies to ensure you document the needed information. (0.10 CEU)

April 1 | New Professional Reporter Grant Opens 

The New Professional Reporter Grant is awarded annually to a promising working court reporter in his or her first year out of school. The grant is $2,000 and helps support start-up expenses for a new court reporter, such as purchasing software and earning credentials.

April 6 | Learning Center Webinar: Advocating for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing | Presenters: Andrew November and Keri November

A disability litigator fights for those who cannot fight for themselves, or at the very least, fights right alongside them. You do not have to be a disability litigator to ally with a marginalized group. During our one hour together, we will spend the first half focusing on Deaf Rights, advocating for individuals who are deaf and hard of hearing and accessibility, including techniques such as closed captioning. For the second half-hour, Keri November will teach basic American Sign Language so that you have some knowledge and awareness. (0.10 CEU)

During this introductory course for using Microsoft Word 2016, you’ll learn the basics of using Word 2016. The Monyeen Black Memorial Grant honors the memory of Monyeen Black, RPR, CRR. New professionals who have passed the RPR certification are encouraged to apply for the annual award which is worth $1,000.

The month-long campaign is a way for NCRA members to show pride in the certifications they have earned, are working to earn, or are intending to earn.

Web development languages, such as HTML (Hyper Text Markup Language) and CSS (Cascading Style Sheets), are essential skills to have because they are foundational languages of the Web. HTML is a markup language that is used in developing Web pages and CSS is a language responsible for layout and styling of Web pages. In this course we will cover both languages from scratch.
