Let’s talk insurance

By Natalie Dippenaar

With the Medicare Annual Enrollment Period (AEP) now open and open enrollment for health insurance just around the corner, NCRA wants to remind all members to make time to review their insurance needs!

One of the many benefits of being a member of NCRA is that you are eligible to participate in several personal and professional insurance plans. Each plan was developed to meet NCRA members’ unique needs and allows members to compare and select the package and price that suits them best. Depending on how long you have been a reporter, captioner, or legal videographer, whether you own a firm or not, and whether you have a family or own a home, you have different needs, and NCRA has worked with our partners to ensure all are covered at specially negotiated group rates.

“But what do I need?”

Members often ask where they should start, or what insurance products are the best choice for them. Take time to consider what you need, research the various options, talk to friends and colleagues to find out what might be appropriate, and always shop around and read the fine print to see what is included or excluded.

As a new professional just starting out, you might want to consider:

  • Professional Liability Insurance
  • Equipment Insurance
  • Disability Income Insurance

As your family grows, it is important to make sure you provide for your family:

  • Auto/Home Insurance
  • Accidental Death and Dismemberment
  • Disability Income Insurance
  • Term Life Insurance
  • Pet Insurance

Getting ready for retirement:

  • Medicare Solutions including Medicare Advantage, Medicare Supplement, and Prescription Drug Plans
  • Final Expense Insurance

Important dates to remember:

  • The Medicare Annual Enrollment Period (AEP) is October 15 through December 7.
  • Health insurance open enrollment is November 1 through January 15.
