Early renewal helps you stay ahead

Samantha Alfaro, RPR, a freelance court reporter from Simi Valley, Calif., is proof that doing your civic duty can open the door to a new world of possibilities. It was jury duty where she first witnessed a court reporter in action. Now as a working court reporter herself, Alfaro credits NCRA membership with helping her stay competitive in the field and says renewing early ensures peace of mind for meeting certification requirements. We’re proud to announce Alfaro as our October 2025 renewal winner, earning a $200 Amazon gift card. Below, she shares her thoughts on NCRA membership and how she found her path to court reporting.

JCR | How did you learn about a career in court reporting?

SA | I learned about court reporting by serving on a jury in a criminal trial. I was captivated by the court reporter and thought that that would be an incredible career. When COVID hit, I decided to look for a new career and thought I would give court reporting a try. I loved it then and I love it now!

JCR | What does NCRA membership mean to you?

SA | NCRA membership is a wealth of opportunity, connections, and resources. It represents all the hard work, sacrifices, and perseverance it took to get my RPR, which jump-started my journey into court reporting.

JCR | Why did you renew early this year?

SA | I decided to renew early because I wanted to make sure I kept up with the requirements in order to keep my license and that I didn’t forget. I also heard about the raffle, which sounded like a fun opportunity. I never imagined I would actually win, but I’m glad I renewed early regardless.

You can win, too

All you have to do is renew by November 30 and you’ll be entered into a drawing for a $100 Amazon gift card.

Renewing is easy and available online at NCRA.org/renew or by calling 800-272-6272.
