The strength of our Association lies not only in its membership but also in the wealth of experience, knowledge, and dedication our members bring to the profession. Volunteer leadership turns that collective expertise into meaningful action that benefits court reporters, captioners, and legal videographers nationwide.
As a Board member, you will have the opportunity to help shape the future of our Association, influence strategic priorities, champion important initiatives, and ensure NCRA remains strong, relevant, and prepared for the challenges and opportunities ahead.
Your experience. Your voice. Your leadership. Help shape NCRA’s future!
Nominations are open through Jan. 29, 2027.
Board eligibility and candidate nominations
Now is your opportunity to make a difference! Take the next step in your professional journey by nominating yourself or encouraging a colleague to serve on the NCRA Board of Directors.
According to Article III, Section 9 (c) of the NCRA Constitution & Bylaws, only Registered Members who are verbatim stenographic reporters and/or stenographic captioners, Retired Members, Retired Lifetime Members, or Honorary Members who have been verbatim stenographic reporters and/or stenographic captioners are eligible to hold an elective office. Only voting members of NCRA can submit individuals for candidacy. The Nominating Committee seeks members who are committed to NCRA’s mission, value diverse perspectives, work collaboratively, and are willing to dedicate the time necessary to serve effectively. Leadership experience, sound judgment, and the ability to make decisions in the best interests of the Association are also important qualities.
Board service is voluntary and requires a significant time commitment. While Board members are not compensated, most expenses associated with their service are reimbursable.
Service as an officer
Executive Committee positions are typically filled by members who currently serve or have previously served on the NCRA Board. With nearly 10,000 members and a budget approaching $5 million, NCRA benefits from officers who have firsthand knowledge of the Association’s operations, governance, and Board responsibilities.
The election process
The Nominating Committee, as outlined in the Constitution and Bylaws, meets at least 90 days prior to the annual election to create a slate of nominees for the following positions:
- President-Elect
- Vice President
- Secretary-Treasurer
- Two Directors (three-year terms)
