Help shape our Association’s future — nominations open for Board of Directors

2025-2026 NCRA Officers and Board of Directors

Our Association’s strength comes directly from the dedication of its members. We’re a volunteer-powered community, and we know that each of you has unique skills and knowledge that can make a real difference.

That’s why we’re encouraging you to step up and nominate yourself or a fellow member for the NCRA Board of Directors. By taking on a leadership role, you’ll have a direct hand in shaping the future of our profession and ensuring our Association remains a strong, supportive resource for court reporters, captioners, and videographers everywhere.

Nominations open on Oct. 1.

Serving on the Board is not just about leadership; it is an opportunity to expand and strengthen your network of peers and increase NCRA’s influence within the legal profession. As a Board member, you will be at the forefront of guiding the Association’s direction and initiatives, making a lasting difference for all members.

According to Article III, Section 9 (c) of the NCRA Constitution & Bylaws, only Registered Members who are verbatim stenographic reporters and/or stenographic captioners, Retired Members, Retired Lifetime Members, or Honorary Members who have been verbatim stenographic reporters and/or stenographic captioners are eligible to hold an elective office.

Only voting members of NCRA can submit individuals for candidacy. This includes Participating Members, Registered Members, Retired Members, Retired Lifetime Members, and Honorary Members who have been verbatim stenographic reporters and/or stenographic captioners.

When recommending yourself or another candidate, consider the qualities the Nominating Committee seeks:

  • Dedication and commitment to the profession
  • Ability to work collaboratively as a team player
  • Strong communication skills
  • Outstanding reputation and character
  • Proven leadership abilities
  • Visionary thinking and thought leadership

Board service is uncompensated and requires significant time commitments. Most expenses involved in Board service are reimbursable.

Positions on the Executive Committee of the Board are typically filled by those who have served or are currently serving on the NCRA Board. With NCRA’s membership of nearly 10,000 members and a budget of almost $5 million, it is crucial for candidates to have experience as a director to understand and fulfill the responsibilities of these roles.

The Nominating Committee, as outlined in the Constitution and Bylaws, meets at least 90 days prior to the annual election to create a slate of nominees for the following offices:

  • President-Elect
  • Vice President
  • Secretary-Treasurer
  • Two Directors (three-year terms)
