Two NCRF Conference support opportunities open for students and members

The National Court Reporters Foundation (NCRF) is pleased to announce that two support opportunities are now open to help alleviate financial barriers for those wishing to attend the 2026 NCRA Conference & Expo in Bellevue, Wash., taking place July 16-18.

“We at the National Court Reporters Foundation are pleased to announce that these two 2026 NCRA Conference & Expo support opportunities are now open,” said NCRF Chair Doug Friend, FAPR, RDR, CRR (Ret.). “Attending the NCRA Conference & Expo is a priceless experience — offering education, networking, and the chance to build lasting professional friendships. If you are eligible, we strongly encourage you to apply for one or both of these awards.”

Applications are now being accepted for:

  • The Christine Phipps Family Foundation Travel Award: up to 10 awards granted
  • The NCRF Student Conference Registration Scholarship: up to 10 scholarships awarded

These offerings reflect NCRF’s ongoing commitment to expanding access to professional development and meaningful engagement within the court reporting and captioning communities.

2026 Christine Phipps Family Foundation Travel Award

Members and students are invited to apply for one of 10 Christine Phipps Family Foundation Travel Awards, which provide financial assistance to first-time attendees to help offset the costs associated with attending the NCRA Conference & Expo.

The award may be used to defray travel-related expenses and/or Conference registration fees. Recipients will be selected based on financial need and other situational considerations.

“It’s an honor to support dedicated stenographers through travel awards that help ease the financial burden of professional development,” said Christine Phipps, RPR. “Attending Conference was the gamechanger in my own career, what took me to the next level of achievements. I believe that when we invest in each other, we strengthen our entire profession. Through NCRF, the Christine Phipps Family Foundation is proud to help create more opportunities for our colleagues to grow, connect, and thrive.”

Phipps established this award in 2022 to ensure that financial constraints do not prevent deserving students and members from having a first-time opportunity to participate in the profession’s premier annual event.

How to apply:

Download the application and submit completed form via email to ncrfoundation@ncra.org by Friday, April 24, at 5 p.m. Eastern. Winners will be announced shortly after the application period closes.

Note: Only first-time Conference attendees are eligible to apply for this award.

NCRF Student Conference Registration Scholarship

In addition, student members may apply for the NCRF Student Conference Registration Scholarship, which covers the cost of Conference registration (a $320 value) for eligible applicants.

This scholarship is designed to give students the opportunity to experience the NCRA Conference & Expo firsthand — engaging in educational sessions, networking with industry leaders, and building lasting professional connections.

Eligibility criteria:

  • Be an NCRA student member in good standing
  • Complete the scholarship application
  • Submit instructor verification of passing a 160 wpm skills test

Students not enrolled in a formal court reporting program may verify speed by submitting proof of one of the following:
