In a profession built on capturing the words of others, court reporters and captioners don’t always have a safe space to process or vent about their experiences or reactions. The National Court Reporters Foundation’s (NCRF) Peer-to-Peer Support program was created by NCRA President Cindy Isaacson, RPR, to change that.
On Thursday, April 9, from 7:30–9 p.m. Eastern, NCRA members are invited to step away from the demands of the job and into a supportive, confidential Zoom environment.
Unlike traditional educational opportunities, these sessions aren’t about skillbuilding or certification. They’re about connection, a rare chance to speak candidly with others who understand the emotional realities of each other’s work — or simply to listen and reflect alongside peers who “get it.”
Sometimes the most powerful thing we can do is realize we’re not alone, the program emphasizes. And for many who have already attended, that realization has been both grounding and energizing.
A different kind of professional support
Each session is guided by Bev Perez, MSW, a certified peer and grief support facilitator with a background in law enforcement. Her experience working in high-stress, trauma-exposed environments shapes the tone of each ZoomUp — one that prioritizes psychological safety, respect, and zero pressure to participate.
Attendees are welcome to share as much or as little as they like. There are no expectations, no scripts, no judgment — just a shared understanding of the unique challenges that come with the profession.
That flexibility is what makes the program resonate. Some participants come ready to talk through a difficult experience. Others log in simply to hear familiar voices and feel connected.
Why it matters now
The Peer-to-Peer program reflects a broader shift in recognizing that professional sustainability isn’t just about skills — it’s also about mental and emotional well-being.
Taking 90 minutes to connect with peers may seem like a small step, but for many, it has become an essential one.
