Foundation raffle winners luck out with Lumi II writer and Clutch for a Cause evening bag

To keep the “fun” in fundraising, our National Court Reporters Foundation leaders offered two 2023 raffle opportunities with winners selected during the NCRA Conference & Expo in Houston last month. Stenograph donated a new Luminex II writer, and the Clutch for a Cause designer evening bag was provided by Trustee Early Langley, RMR, and former Trustee Tami Keenan, FAPR, RPR, CPE. The raffle winners had two things in common: Neither were in Houston, and both got lucky.

This year’s Lumi II fundraiser for NCRF matched previous fundraising levels. This will allow NCRF leaders to deliver on their promise to create new Foundation programs for members. “Stenograph is so proud to see that the raffle of our donated Luminex II raised over $12,000 for NCRF,” said Dan Denofsky, Vice President of Marketing at Stenograph. “We are happy to support the mission of NCRF to offer scholarships, grants, and outreach programs to students, the lifeblood of our industry.”

The winner of the Stenograph Luminex II is Kathleen Husdon, CM, RPR, CRI, a freelancer from New Braunfels, Texas. “I was planning to return to court reporting, so I bought a ticket thinking that if it was meant to be I would win, and I won,” she said. “It’s never too late for a second act! I love my profession, and I’m looking forward to the future!”

Clutch winner Victoria Dudeck, RPR, of Merrifield, Minn., received a flood of messages from colleagues about her prize. As Langley shouted at the Clutch for a Cause Gala drawing, “It don’t mean a thing if it ain’t got the bling!”

“My friend Janine Ferren [RMR, CRR], the one who yelled out during the drawing that I was in Minnesota, texted me on Saturday night that I had won,” Dudeck said. “Then Melanie Humphrey-Sonntag [FAPR, RDR, CRR, CRC] did too. I was absolutely shocked! Others sent me messages through Facebook saying they didn’t know I was there at [Conference] this year.

“It’s great that NCRF makes it possible for us to ‘play along from home’ when we can’t be there in person,” she said. “The work that NCRF does is so important to our profession, and I fully support it every way that I can. Thank you for the work that you do and for the opportunity to participate in a small way and thank you so much for the gorgeous bag!”

Both NCRF raffle winners provide proof that “you do not have to be present to win.” The Foundation thanks all raffle ticket buyers for their purchases, as both raffles’ fundraisers will help advance NCRF strategic plan goals.
