NCRF announces its third-year winners of the Gina Battaglia Memorial Student Intern Scholarship. These memorial scholarships for court reporting students are intended to help them in a meaningful way by providing additional resources during their court reporting learning journeys. With school-related costs rising each month, winning a scholarship assists in providing financial relief as students purchase their tools.
Two students have the honor of winning these student intern scholarships created in memory of Gina Battaglia, daughter of NCRA member Stephanie Zeder Battaglia, RMR, CRR. Friends, colleagues, and other NCRA supporters have donated generously to help fund this campaign. The scholarship awards are $2,000 each.
The 2025 winners are Mariana Schmidt from Munhall, Pa., a student at the Community College of Allegheny County, in Allegheny, Pa., and Sydney Slocum from Eddyville, Iowa, a student at Des Moines Area Community College in Des Moines, Iowa.

“Being honored by this organization and committee is a dream come true for me and is a memory that I will treasure forever. I humbly accept this award with the most upmost gratitude and appreciation for NCRF, the Angel Gatherers Committee members, and the family of Gina Battaglia,” said Mariana Schmidt.
“This scholarship will tremendously assist me in the transition of completing school and starting my career. I sincerely thank you from the bottom of my heart,” she added.

“I am so honored to accept the Gina Battaglia Memorial Student Intern Scholarship,” noted Slocum. “I am incredibly thankful that I was chosen. This scholarship will be invaluable when I purchase my professional software and start my career as a court reporter! Thank you so much!”
