Starting Oct. 1, NCRA is making changes to earn your Certified Realtime Captioner (CRC) credential!
Under the new requirements, candidates will simply need to pass the CRC Skills Test and the CRC Written Knowledge Test. The mandatory online CRC education component will be eliminated. Candidates will have the opportunity to self-affirm their readiness by reviewing the Knowledge and Skill Outline for CRC Candidates.
That means you decide when you’re ready to take the CRC exams. Visit the NCRA Certification Test Center for information and registration.
By removing the required course, we’re lowering the cost of obtaining your credential and recognizing the many unique paths captioners take into the field, whether through formal education, years of experience, or a mix of both.

Your journey to becoming a CRC just got simpler, smarter, and more flexible. Mark your calendar and get ready to take the next step in your career!
Upcoming testing opportunities:
- Registration for the Online Skills Tests is open Oct. 1-20 for testing in November.
- Registration for the Written Knowledge Test is open Dec. 1-30 for testing in January.
