Building on the successes in 2025 for a big 2026

“Start where you are. Use what you have. Do what you can.” This is an apt description of what NCRA members and volunteers across the country have done throughout 2025 to advocate for our profession. The NCRA Political Action Committee (PAC) would like to thank all of you for your efforts to engage members of Congress, key stakeholders, and power brokers. The year 2026 could be pivotal for national artificial intelligence (AI) regulation, and we are going to have a seat at the table thanks to all of you.

It started in February 2025,with our Leadership & Legislative Boot Camp on Capitol Hill. NCRA PAC Co-Chair Darlene Devlin, an official court reporter and CART captioner from Patchogue, N.Y., was there along with members from across the United States for what she notes as two days of intense training culminating in a powerful and significant day on Capitol Hill advocating for legislation to establish a task force dedicated to implementing safeguards for the use of emerging AI technology in the judicial system. Boot Camp is an experience like no other and brings you face-to-face with members of Congress. The next one is being held March 1-3 and, if you attend, you could make the difference in getting a national AI task force established!

What helps us get in front of these lawmakers is our ability to raise money and deploy it wisely. Once again, our members stepped up and helped the PAC break itsannual fundraising record for the second year in a row at the 2025 NCRA Conference & Expo held in July We ended up with our most cash on hand in 14 years!  Fundraising happens year-round, not just at the Conference, so stay tuned for opportunities to give in 2026.

NCRA’s government relations team has been working on so many other things behind the scenes, including in March 2025, when we responded to the Trump administration’s request for information on the development of an AI Action Plan. In November 2025, we responded to the Trump administration’s Request for Information on the  Regulatory Reform on Artificial Intelligence.

Other victories from this past year range from Michigan’s historic page-rate adjustment, the first in nearly 40 years, to cultivating relationships with leaders on both sides of the aisle. State-level successes are proving what works: Grassroots mobilization stopped harmful legislation at the state level, and now we’re taking those lessons to Capitol Hill.

Together, we’re building alliances, educating policymakers, and ensuring court reporting, captioning, and legal videography professionals have a powerful voice in shaping our profession’s future. The strength we show at the state level today becomes the blueprint for federal advocacy tomorrow. Join the fight by visiting the NCRA PAC page to invest in the battle against AI.
