NCRA applauds nominations of new FCC chairman and commissioner

Last week, the U.S. Senate confirmed the nominations of Tom Wheeler, who will take on the role of chairman of the Federal Communications Commission, and Michael O’Rielly, who will fill a vacant Republican commissioner seat. Wheeler, a former telecommunications and wireless phone lobbyist, will serve a five-year term. O’Rielly had previously served as an adviser to Senate Republican Whip John Cornyn from Texas.

“NCRA would like to congratulate both Mr. Wheeler and Mr. O’Rielly on their appointments to the FCC. We look forward to continuing the productive dialogue that we have long maintained on the importance of high-quality broadcast captioning and the expansion of the number of media markets that are required to caption all of their television content,” said Adam Finkel, NCRA assistant director of government relations.
