For members who missed the first session of the five-part FREE series on leadership development NCRA is hosting, the recording is now available in the NCRA Learning Center. The first session was held on May 5 and was titled Start Where You Are: Creating a vision for your personal leadership. The cost to watch the recorded session is free to NCRA members and $45 for nonmembers. The webinar in the Learning Center is worth 0.125 CEU.
“It’s a great no-cost opportunity to learn how to approach situations differently and learn what motivates you and others,” said NCRA member Travis Atkins, Jr., an official court reporter from Mobile, Ala., who attended the first session and plans to attend all five in the series. “As an officer of my state association, I am working on improving my leadership and communications,” he added.
Lead presenter of the series, Jesse Walker of Intentional Leader Coaching, strongly encourages everyone who is interested in the series or missed the first session to watch it before attending the second session, which is scheduled for June 2 at 7:30-9 p.m. Eastern.
The June session, Your Growth Map: Mapping your path from “stuck” to “flourishing,” will focus on who you are becoming. Discussion will address how we are formed as well as the difference between nature, nurture, and choice.
“I really enjoy NCRA training events. They are excellent opportunities to grow as both a reporter and a person,” said Rachel Waterhouse-Schwalm, RPR, a freelance court reporter and agency owner from Dubuque, Iowa, who also attended the first session. “So much of what I have learned in NCRA training opportunities transfers to personal life. It is also a great opportunity to network with fellow reporters and collaborate and learn from each other,” she added.
Waterhouse-Schwalm, who plans on attending all of the live sessions, work schedule permitting, said events like the leadership series, as well as being involved in her state association, invigorate her about the court reporting profession and helping, promoting, and protecting it.
“Taking advantage of these opportunities gives such insight into our profession. I always learn new things. It is a crash course in advocacy and opportunity for immersive learning. I always walk away feeling I have learned more and am more inspired and excited about court reporting,” Waterhouse-Schwalm noted.
The objective of the series is to help NCRA members make the move from leadership uncertainty to empowerment by laying the framework of what a leader is, challenging participants in their individual growth, and encouraging members toward deeper engagement with Association work.
Attendees of the live sessions have the opportunity to share thoughts and ideas sparked by the session discussions as well as team-building activities in breakout rooms throughout the Zoom event.
All sessions will be recorded and made available in the NCRA Learning Center. Registration to attend the live sessions is open now, and you can register once for all sessions. For information, contact NCRA Director of Governance Laura Butler, CAP-OM, at lbutler@ncra.org.
