JCR | How did you hear about court reporting?
SI | Court reporting is my second career. I started in the banking industry, first in the corporate offices in purchasing and then as a loan processor. One of my coworkers was going to Bryan College of Court Reporting and she suggested I take the test to see if I could get in. I did! I got up to 160 wpm when I had to drop school for a couple of years as life got in the way.
I returned to school part time in Oregon in 1998 while working full time as a loan processor and raising my babies. I finally started full time in 2000 when I got laid off from Chase. I was going to graduate in 2001 but was diagnosed with thyroid cancer, so I graduated in 2002.
JCR | Why did you want to serve on the Board?
SI | I have been doing board service since 2004. I served in all positions on the Oregon board. I chaired the membership and bylaws committees.
Court reporting is an amazing career that has gotten me and my family through some really hard times. I want to give back to the profession. This is why I have decided to commit myself to board service.
JCR | What’s one thing that people probably don’t already know about you?
SI | In my late teens, early 20s, I tried acting and made a horror movie. We were never able to get distribution, so it just sat in the can. It was born to be a classic. I just know it!
